Music Lessons (TOP)
Individual music Lessons are available at the Downtown YMCA, the North Area Family YMCA, and the new East Area Family YMCA. The following programs are currently available at the North YMCA:  Guitar, Piano, Voice, Winds, and Percussion.

Who are your instructors? Piano is taught by George Skafidas and Cynthia Bromka-Skafidas. Guitar is taught by Carl Lovell and Michael Lynn.   Winds and Percussion are taught by Patti Heath.  Voice is taught by Tina Pearsal.

Students of all ages and experience levels are welcome, and our rates are a fraction of what you might expect to pay elsewhere.

Questions and Answers:

How old do you have to be to take lessons? Lessons are available for students of all ages.

Does the YMCA supply guitars, violins, or flutes for lessons? No, you will need to have your own instrument.

Do I need prior experience? Lessons are available for all experience levels. Beginners welcome!

Are lessons one-on-one or in groups? All lessons are individual lessons.

Are parents allowed to stay for their child's lesson? Sure! In fact, we encourage it… by staying for your child's lesson, you can help them practice at home.

Where are lessons held? Lessons are held at various spaces in the YMCA branches. At our new East Area Family YMCA, we will have three dedicated music lesson rooms!

When are lessons held? Lessons are held at different times throughout the week and weekend. To arrange a lesson time with an instructor, follow our registration procedure (below). Lessons are scheduled for a seasonal term.

If a term has already started, can I still sign-up?
You bet! We're always happy to arrange lessons for new students. Fees will be adjusted for late registrations.

How long are lessons? Most lessons are 30 minutes long, and meet once per week. For serious students, lessons of 45 minutes are available. For small children (up to age 5), 15-minute lessons are available.

Are sheet music and lesson books provided? Some sheet music may be given to students. If books are required, students will need to purchase them on their own.

How do I register? Like personal training, individual lessons require a personal approach. Here is the procedure:

  1. Complete the attached registration form, providing your credit card information, and return it as directed. We will bill your card automatically every two months, for lessons you took--no more advance payment required!
  2. After receiving your registration form, the Music Coordinator will call to arrange a lesson time that meets your schedule

Y-Arts Camp 2008 at the North Area Family YMCA

August 2008 -  More information to follow in the spring of 2008.

Y-Arts Camp offers an array of creative projects in ceramics, sculpture, drawing,  painting, fiber arts, printmaking and more, for children ages 8-12. With the leadership of professionally trained artists, our campers work both individually and in groups on projects that nurture their creative imaginations and expand their artistic abilities... and this year, we're delighted to offer our first program at the North Area Family YMCA

.

Y-Arts Camp will be offered for two one week session. Each session will offer new experiences, so kids can join us for both weeks without repeating activities. Each week ends with an art exhibition open to family, friends and YMCA members. Brochures and Registration Forms are available at all branches.
